The Quiet Shift of Early Spring

There is something about late February and early March that feels like standing at a threshold.

The light lingers just a little longer in the evening. Snow softens into water. The air carries the faint suggestion of change, even when winter is still very much present. It’s not quite a beginning, but it feels like the possibility of one.

I’ve always loved this in-between season. It asks for patience, it builds our anticipation, it shows us the small wonders of nature and the world around us if we're paying attention. Nothing is fully awake yet, and still, something is happening beneath the surface.

Reading can feel this way too.

There are times when we return to books with fresh attention. We notice what draws us in, what we have energy for, and what we want to linger with. After a winter of cozy reading under blankets and with a steaming mug of tea, we might shift to reading by a window, choosing light and inspirational reads, walking outside again with an audiobook. There is no need to overhaul anything. A small shift is enough to recognize the subtle changes around us and in us. Spring rarely arrives all at once. It unfolds gradually, often quietly. Our reading lives can follow the same rhythm.

If you’re feeling the pull toward something new, you might listen for it gently. Perhaps it’s a different genre. Perhaps it’s rereading something familiar. Perhaps it’s simply making space to sit with a story again.

There is no urgency here. Just an invitation to notice what is beginning.

With warmth,

Susan
